Everyday Wellness Tools: Thymus Tapping for Relaxation & Emotional Calm
Adding to your back pocket everyday wellness tools is thymus tapping for relaxation and emotional calm. In less than one minute, you can quell anxiety and worry, boost your immune system by increasing T-cell production (T-cells have been proven to attack viruses, bacteria, toxins and even cancer cells in your body), and boost your energy.*
The thymus gland is located in the center of the sternum. By tapping, or “thumping,” this area, you can calm and ground yourself in the moment, boost immunity, and stimulate all the energies in your body.
To tap the thymus, use the tips of your fingers on one hand, and simply, gently tap counter-clockwise in a circular pattern around the center of your sternum. Tap for 10-40 seconds; most people find that about 30 seconds is optimal. Often you will experience a sigh or a yawn, indicating that the tapping is sufficient, and you can now stop.
This is an excellent practice to tune into your body and mind, get quiet, and listen. Practice being still and patient with the sensations you feel, make an effort to listen to your intuition, and try to hear what your body is telling you.
Your body provides a great deal of invaluable information, which can be used as an indispensable tool once you practice and learn how to listen and hear what it’s telling you.
A whole-food, plant-based diet and getting ample, uninterrupted sleep each night are powerful ways to support a healthy thymus gland, and therefore boost your immunity. Choosing homemade, nutrient-dense meals instead of processed foods contributes significantly to vibrant health as we age, avoidance of disease and longevity…including a healthy thymus!
Some examples of opportune times to tap your thymus include the following:
Before a meeting or interview
When you experience anxiety or worry
Entering a chaotic environment
The dreaded afternoon slump, when you feel tired
Before sleep
Upon waking
As a prelude to meditation
If you feel yourself fighting off illness
When you are emotionally triggered
Taking a moment to get grounded before starting the day, or a new task
